|Value First City = Many [...] still wear Tracklayers' uniforms [...]: overalls, boots, work helmets. But there is something archaic in the cut and the shape. The jewellery – made, generally, from cheap materials – echoes the shapes of the Second City, chunky and theriomorphic.

|Value Ealing = Those most influenced by Ealing tie false tentacles to their chins. The older Tracklayers scoff. The Rubbery men themselves look confused: what is the purpose of limbs that cannot move or gesture? But the fad persists.
|Value Evenlode = To all this, a few of the more adventurous – or those who really did escape the Evenlode – wear stolen prison garb; sometimes in its natural colour, and sometimes dipped in peligin, the better to proclaim its outcast monstrosity.
|Value Balmoral = The more avant-garde now and then layer over this a cloak edged with moonlight scales or lined with tartan plaid. The conceit is that they all have sweethearts down by Balmoral who give them these tokens to wear, though most of them must be feigned.
|Value Station VIII = Workers [...] from Station VIII have number identification patches [...] the fashion is to wear them upside down or across one's posterior. One young man adopted an even more eye-catching mode, until it was suggested that a six-digit number was flattering himself.
|Value Burrow = Not a few people also carry an instrument with them when they are at leisure: something small and portable, a rattle or a pennywhistle if nothing better serves. But no one wants to hear the beat and be unable to answer.
|Value Moulin = Now and then, someone will augment the dress with some curious old artefact picked up in the wastes: medals from a war long forgotten, epaulettes of a defunct brigade.
|Value Marigold = As for the devils, they are as always impeccable in sharp edged gowns and suits, and no one else will be ready to ape their ways for another twenty years at least.
