Editing Summer festivals

Over the course of the game's history there have been several festivals during July, each with different mechanics, but which share a common pool of items.

== Election ==

The Election festival involved players electing a Mayor of London from a set of three candidates selected by Failbetter Games. It ran from 2016 to 2020, and was permanently retired in 2021 due to a variety of reasons.

== Mr Chimes' Grand Clearing-Out ==

Announced in 2021 as a one shot replacement for the Election festival, it involved players digging up parts of London, and then dealing with the fallout of said digging.

== Estival ==

Following the success of the Grand Clearing-Out, a new series of events was announced that would loosely follow its format, collectively called '''the Estival'''. These events share several common features:

# A unique, World Quality based story that plays out over the course of the event, including unique item rewards for participation. The story will eventually recur in the Waswood; the items may or may not.
# Non-story items purchasable with {{IL|Estival Tokens}}
# The story is advanced via player contribution in the form of actions, items, and {{FontFate}}
# Permanent additions to the game upon achieving certain milestones in the story

That being said, Estival is the newest and most changeable of Fallen London's festivals. Next year's could be completely different. Expect the unexpected.

=== F.F. Gebrandt's Prelapsarian Exhibition ===

The 2022 summer event involved players contributing to a museum of Palaeontology. It involved similar mechanics to the Grand Clearing-Out, and featured a new currency, the Estival Token, which will be used in future summer events.

=== The London Horticultural Show ===

The 2023 Estival was announced as the London Horticultural Show. It began on 31 July. It featured an extensive story based around the events at the aforementioned event, which went awry rather quickly. Itd a rather high death toll for an event of this type, all things considered.
