Obsolete template parameters

I've been doing a lot of work in Category:Site maintenance of late and one thing that keeps getting my attention is that we have two empty categories that seem to exist just to aid transitions that have already finished: Category:Item Sources Using Deprecated Parameters for using the old Item Name parameter on the Template:Item Sources template, Category:Item Uses Without Automated Image for Template:Item Uses that manually set images. As far as I can tell, it should be safe to remove the checks on both of these--always enforcing the automatic behaviour--and delete the corresponding categories.

I'd make the relevant template changes immediately but, being a relative newcomer to this wiki, I can't tell if there's some reason I can't see that we should still keep these checks in.
