An audition, of sorts

Perhaps Gebrandt sometimes dreams of the events at the museum. (How could she not? How large it must loom in her memory. How much does it shape her self-image?) The next time she does, she will dream of what might have happened had you been there.

She will not mistake dream for the truth. She knows what is and what is not. She knows you were not there. But she will know precisely how, if you had been there, you would have acquitted yourself. And perhaps, in time, she will come to call on you.
