Success

Asleep and dreaming

[...]

But there is more: in its dream, it is eating. A Parabolan bone is imagined in its mouth. It is subtle work – much more subtle than simply entering the mirror yourself – but you extract that thighbone, too, into range of the Device.

Description summary:
First paragraph is the same as the failure description. In addition, using your skill at Parabolan exploration, you peer into the Hyena's dreams and make a copy of the dream-bone it is eating.

Failure

A quiet rest

You and the Proprietor make a bed for the Hyaena in the back room, and it obligingly settles on its pillow. An application of the Device later, and you have the Skull out of its head.
