Research projects[edit]

There are 3 repeatable Research projects currently freely available, and additionally there are 3 one-time Research projects, which are all FATE-locked.

  • History of the Hinterlands:
    • Reward: - 62.5 E
  • History of Mutability:
    • Reward: - 62.5 E
  • Mystery of the Elder Continent:
    • Reward: - 62.5 E
  • The remaining 3 projects are one-time projects unlocked with
    • Main Reward:

Each study consists of 3 stages, each requiring 200 research. Common for the 3 stages are several basic options, each giving 25 progress. In addition, you will have access to several advanced options, with harder checks and more research, depending on your project, the first action you take in your project and what other advanced options you have previously used. These options can only be used a limited number of times; three times each in stage 1, and four times each in stages 2 and 3.

  • History of the Hinterlands
    • Stage 1 will either have an option with languages or with cartography, which in turn unlock an option with liminality
    • Stage 2 will have options with languages or cartography, and liminality if you unlocked it in stage 1 or unlock it now; these lead to an option with historiography
    • Stage 3 will have options with languages or cartography, and liminality and historiography if previously unlocked or unlocked now; each of these leads to an option with ecology.
  • History of Mutability
    • Stage 1 will have options in ecology or liminality, which unlock an option in historiography
    • Stage 2 will have options in ecology or liminality, and in historiography if you unlocked it in stage 1 or unlock it now; these lead to an option in cartography.
    • Stage 3 has the same options as stage 2
  • Mystery of the Elder Continent
    • Stage 1 will have options in cartography or historiography
    • Stage 1 will have options in cartography or historiography, which unlock an option in liminality, which in turn unlocks an option in languages
    • Stage 2 has the same options as stage 2

For a graphical depiction of these advanced options and how and when they unlock, see Jericho Library (Guide)/Leads

Beginning[edit]

At the start of each project, you have the choice of two options. Each will grant one of two Lead qualities and unlock one of two sets of advanced options

History of the Hinterlands[edit]

  • : 2,
  • : 125,

Unless your is very high and your other attributes are low, it is recommended to go with field research, as it unlocks the best options later.

History of Mutability[edit]

  • : 2,
  • : 125,

The two sets of leads produce the same amount of research over the course of a project if you always use them to their full extent, so the choice is largely down to whether you are well-equipped for advanced skills checks (liminality) or main stat checks (ecology).

Mystery of the Elder Continent[edit]

  • : 2,
  • : 125,

The cartography lead produces more research, and so consulting is recommended over speculating.

Strategy[edit]

With an optimal EPA of around 3, this will never be an effective source of money, but it may be a useful source of the one item it provides.

Optimal play involves focusing on the more advanced options that you can do reliably, and using easy options when you need 25 research or less. If you only need 7 or less research for the next stage, use one of the options that provide additional items.

Stage 1 and 2 both take at least 6 actions, while stage 3 can be done in 5 actions. In addition, 1 action is required to start, one to gain your first lead, and 3 to finish stages for a minimum of 22 actions.
