The Viscount changed his form so that he can blend into the surroundings and survive the dream-waters, in order to continue his mission of watching the ancient Fingerkings in case they stir. The Viscount's current form can no longer bear the collar. However, he also reveals his opinion that the Viscountess is better off without him because he believes that he is holding back her potential.
