Question[edit]

Hi! Sometimes when I add an image it's too low and I don't know how to change it. Like here An Assignment from the Cheesemonger. Varissaelle 14:42, January 2, 2011 (UTC)

Image Positioning[edit]

Thanks :-) Varissaelle 19:56, January 2, 2011 (UTC)

Wiki[edit]

Hi!

I found this site in google, typing "A serious offer" card echo.
Aaand a few questions :)
Most of the items don't have any effects so should I use this item template for them? What if someone wants to check how to obtain certain items or what they are needed for? How to connect items pages with these quests?
I'm a little bit confuse with all these categories too so thanks for all the hints.
Thanks for helping and sorry for my language because I'm not used to write in english -_-' Varissaelle 12:18, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

Sooo, soooo slooow...[edit]

It takes so long to load, edit or add wiki pages today. Am I the only one with that problem? :( Varissaelle 20:06, January 12, 2011 (UTC)

Ouch.. I've made another mistake.[edit]

Accomplishments should be content pages not category and I've made A Survivor of the Affair of the Box -_-'
And what about Fascinating, Casing and other Progress? Category or page? With or without "..."? Varissaelle 16:36, January 17, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks![edit]

Thanks for the help Neonix! 220.255.1.83 01:43, January 24, 2011 (UTC)

Duplicate/Mis-named pages[edit]

What should I do when I find a page that is a duplicate and/or mis-named? For example: Have you a handkerchief vs. Have you a handkerchief? (the latter is the one that fits the in-game text).

Prequevu 03:00, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

Small thing - on the main page there's missing | between Having Recurring Dreams and Items :-) Varissaelle 12:31, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

I wonder.. maybe we (I mean you, they probably won't understand me :D) can write to wikia admins to remove or redirect from that other echo bazaar wikia? Varissaelle 12:40, March 18, 2011 (UTC)

Quirk/Menace/Story Levels[edit]

Re:My Talk Page[edit]

Oh, I just googled "echo bazaar wiki", it was the first hit. I usually use the others too as they sometimes have info this one lacks and I like their organization of stuff a tad better. Jonathan Strange 17:05, April 10, 2011 (UTC)

Example: I needed to acquire more Greyfields 1882 so I was looking for a way to obtain them. Compare your page about the item and this one . It takes objectively less time to find what you are looking for on the latter website. Belive me, I understand that this added (one may even say redundant) information is quite a lot of work, considering how horrible a clusterfuck (pardon the expression) tables on wiki-based sites are, but from the user viewpoint it's much accessible. All in all, I lack more user created content, ie. texts that would explain what this and that item does, user's experience, strategy, tips, whatever. Then again, maybe I'm just spoiled from high-traffic wikis like the Fallout games wiki, where you can find 99% of info that is available and more. Jonathan Strange 11:29, April 11, 2011 (UTC)

Random reward?[edit]

Hey Neonix, thanks for the friendly greeting! One quick question: if I get a different reward for an action than the one listed on the wiki, should I assume the reward is random, or should I just leave a comment asking for confirmation? It's an oppotunity card, so I've only had the chance to try it once.

Different Sunday option at Mahogany Hall[edit]

If you go to Sunday in Mahogany Hall and your a Survivor of the Affair of the Box is 12, you get a different action option - it's called "The CHARMING and EXOTIC Kashmiri Princess". I can enter the details; should I just add it to Day of the Week like this:

7. sunday - Sunday's show | The CHARMING and EXOTIC Kashmiri Princess

or is there a different format? R Ivybridge 17:02, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

Renaming[edit]

Can the 'Mysteries of the Elder Country' page be renamed to 'Mystery of the Elder Country'? The latter is the item name in-game, now. I did a search on rename and renaming, but couldn't find anything. R Ivybridge 20:24, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

The canonical name is now Mystery of the Elder Continent - editing this section so I can clear these soon-to-be-broken links :) Jemann (talk) 11:16, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

In search of a Stiff Drink - Aid the Widow[edit]

I tried to update the success results on that, but the page is locked.

Here you go:

  • Shadowy has increased ...
  • You succeeded in a Shadowy challenge! (Simple challenges mean you don't learn so much.)
  • You've lost a quality: Connected: the Duchess.
  • Connected: The Orient is increasing...
  • You've gained 2000 x Jade Fragment*

An occurrence! Your 'in search of a Stiff Drink' Quality is now 5 - An ally of the Widow!

Fate-locked options[edit]

Some options have their own pages, and some don't because we can't supply information on bits that require Fate, anyway. Is there a way to write an option on a page without making it a link?

fate locks[edit]

Dear wiki overlord

I know we aren't allowed to post fate locked actions. But im not sure, weather we are allowed to post content that is unlocked by having an item or quality that is only obtainable via a fate locked action. I know of a few articals already on this wiki that this applys too, and i want to know weather these are allowed by echobazaar's creators, or if i should remove them.

Harry2469 13:23, November 25, 2011 (UTC)

i belive you need to be an admin to delete pages. Shall i link them here so that you can delete as necersary?

Harry2469 18:05, November 26, 2011 (UTC)

Formatting indirectly fate locked content[edit]

Dear Princess Celestia Neoix

I am noticing a fair few indierectly fate locked actions recently (actions requiring something only obtainable through the use of fate). I was just wondering what the generaly accepted way of dealing with this is. So far i've just been omitting their success information, not making the fate locked requirements a link, and not applying the stub template to them. But this strikes me as messy, leaving a great big {{{Success description}}} when the success is imposible to place. Some direction on this topic would be apreciated.

Your faithful student, twilight sparkle

Harry2469 15:09, December 16, 2011 (UTC)

here's that list of indirect fate locks you requested

Harry2469 23:02, December 16, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that's definatly better, thanks. I wonder weather it would break failbetter's rules on fate to show which fate locked action could lead to the required item.

Harry2469 10:34, December 17, 2011 (UTC)

Ok, cool. Thanks again for the help! ^_^

"An Urchin sent you" page[edit]

Hey, I've added a result page to the A Clandestine Rendezvous storylet, (An Urchin sent you) but I don't actually know how to edit a wiki, so, erm...it's a bit of a mess. *hides* Just thought you might want another result. All the info is there, I did my best to copy the "A Docker sent you" page, but not sure how to add images or put the red background on the spoiler text warning or anything. Hopefully it's at least some help :)

Well you did right by telling me. ;) I'd advise you to check out the Editing Guidelines page, editing is really easy to do! :D You'd want to use templates - it automatically does the formatting, including the spoiler text warning for you!

As if I weren't busy enough...[edit]

... I'm thinking of starting a second character to document early-game stuff. Which Ambition could use some attention? Bag a Legend seems to cut off before the end; Light Fingers is also a bit lacking.
Jemann (talk) 02:07, April 15, 2012 (UTC)

Oh my. Quite the diligent explorer, aren't you! Feel free to pursue either, indeed the information we have on those two particular ambitions are rather lacking (or needs updating)
Neonix (talk) 04:10, April 15, 2012 (UTC)

Help? I think i messed something up.[edit]

Ok, I need help. I thought I understood how to add a card ' A Raggedy Creature' for the pet Haunted-looking Dog, but I messed up the Haunted-looking Dog sources page.

I'm afraid I can't make heads or tales of the template pages on how to do this.

I got my haunted looking dog from a rare opportunity card called A Raggedy Creature (the wikidot says it is unlocked at Shadowy 20, but I didn't note that at the time.)

The text on the card was:

A dog cowers in a Veilgarden alley, surrounded by a gang of taunting cats. The dog is a mangy, ill-favoured beast, a crossbreed of spaniel and doormat. One of its tormentors fixes you with yellow eyes. 'Keep walking,' she says.

[This is a Rare Opportunity - you lucky thing! Allowing your Menaces to get too high, or leaving Fallen London, may mean losing this card. Use it wisely!]

There were two options -

Break it up

Let them have their fun

I chose Break it up and got the text:

'That's enough now. Off you go...'

The cats scatter before you, hissing promises of direst vengeance. The dog whines gratefully and clings, shivering, to your side. He follows you all the way home.

You now have 1 x Haunted-looking Dog. (picture is dog2.png and dog2small.png)

I promise not to add any more cards until I understand how to do it. I'll stick to editing existing ones, I can figure that out by looking at other cards.
Aryenke (talk) 17:00, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Creating pages on the wiki is fairly straightforward. Just use the "Add the Page" button (it should be near the top right), and use the title of the Card/Storylet/Item/Action as the page title. After that, you can use the appropriate template to fill in the information.

Templates for Cards and Storylets are labelled: Card 1, Card 2... etc to reflect the number of possible choices.

Categories are the tricky bit, but I honestly wouldn't worry about them too much. The important thing is that you add categories to the page (in this case it's Break it up ) as they are needed. Don't worry if the category page doesn't exist yet. The wiki will automatically create it for you - and the page will be listed there as well!

(BTW, the template for Item Sources is Template:Item Sources. Similarly, the one for item uses is Template:Item Uses. All they do is add a preset description, with links to the relevant item page.)

I think I'll leave this one in your capable hands - no time to learn like the present and all that. (Unless, of course, Jemann decides to go on ahead and edit it himself. XD) And please, don't worry about messing things up - pages can easily be edited, or if you so wish, deleted. In fact, some users merely dump their (unformatted!) information on pages, leaving the more experienced editors to clean up. I only ask that you use the proper page title to make them easier to track down.

PS. A link you may also find useful Templates
Neonix (talk) 21:45, May 14, 2012 (UTC)
_Now_ I read your reply - how well you know me.

But yes, the best way to learn is to just do it; it's also informative to notice the corrections that get made.
Jemann (talk) 00:12, May 15, 2012 (UTC)

Ok, my own starveling cat caused an oops[edit]

While working on the page Reactivate the honey when my cat jumped on my desk and jostled my hands while I was trying to check for a Drop of Gaoler's honey source page. Before I know it I had saved an erroneous category page called drop. I can't figure out if I can edit the name of the page or how to fix it to the name "Drop of Gaoler's Honey".

My cat has been appropriately scolded, but seems unmoved. I'm pretty sure he told me in feline - "ok, I promise to do it again (and again and again) so FEED ME" but my feline to English language dictionary is not very precise, so I'm not positive that's an accurate translation. :)
Aryenke (talk) 19:59, May 20, 2012 (UTC)

Hahaha! Discipline dat cat!

BTW, editing those categories requires you having to "edit" the entire page. Then you should see a list of categories on the bottom right. Hovering over them gives you an option to delete or edit. ^__^ Hope that helps.

Don't mind the Drop page itself, however. Without anything inside it, the category page will be... irrelevant.

Voice of the wiki[edit]

Hey, when did I become the wiki auto-greeter? How odd.

Edit: Ah, now I see how that works. Excuse me while I poke around.
Jemann (talk) 03:50, June 1, 2012 (UTC)

It sounds as if you didn't mean to send the welcome message, but as someone who thought I could help, but was hesitant (b/c I've never really contributed much to a wiki before) I thought I'd let you both know that both your personal welcomes made me more inclined to dig in and help - :)
Aryenke (talk) 05:21, June 1, 2012 (UTC)
Apparently it's the last active admin that gets pegged as the sender - this is just the first time it's been me. It's also my first wiki - addictive, huh?
Jemann (talk) 05:56, June 1, 2012 (UTC)
Heh. I try to give new members a personal welcome in addition to the auto-greeter whenever I can. :) And Jemann, you've been active so much more often than me recently, it's only fitting that the auto-greeter uses your name this time around! ^^ (finals have everything to do with this, grrr)

Admin request by FBG[edit]

As mentioned on the new wiki newspost, FBG has asked admins of the wiki to message them. Jemann, Zdee and I have already done so, so if you wish to take part in the conversation, please tell us your e-mail adress in one way or another so we can collate the messages sent so far to you =)
Aximillio (talk) 16:09, September 4, 2013 (UTC)

A message sent six months ago, and I only see it now. >_> Well this is a bit awkward.

As somebody who hasn't visited Fallen London in a while (both the game and this wiki!), I feel that I am no longer qualified to make the big decisions. The passage of time has washed away all but the my title of Founder.

(that said, I sent a PM to your twitter about my email address. Just in case something like this comes up again.)

Page renames due to Making your Name changes[edit]

I was adding a bit of Information to "Opportunism in Spite". Due to the Making Your Name changes lots of storylets have been grouped into this. Mostly it's storylets where only one action was available before.

Example: "Burgle a Glim assayer's office" contained only the action "Villainy and daring" before. Now, "Villainy and daring" has been renamed "Burgle a Glim assayer's office" and is available under "Opportunism in Spite" under certain Airs. I did the necessary content changes to "Villainy and daring" but I am not allowed to rename it. It did however rename the original "Burgle..." page so the name should be available. The same changes need to be done to quite a few other actions.

Could you please explain what's the proper way to do this? I am willing to do the changes, I just don't know what's the proper way to handle the renaming. Thanks.
Rahv7 (talk) 13:28, November 24, 2015 (UTC)

Nevermind, I have seen that for other changes the actions have been copied into the storylets, I'll do it the same way.
Rahv7 (talk) 16:00, November 25, 2015 (UTC)
I keep missing notifications like these!

If anyone must contact me, you can do so by emailing nix.pwns@gmail.com.

Keep in mind that I'm no longer active in Fallen London, much less this wiki. Quite frankly I'm surprised (and pleased!) to see that this wiki is still alive after all these years!

Much thanks to contributors like you. Well done :D

Person of some Importance[edit]

Hi, I'm sorry if you're the wrong person to ask about this, but I have tried looking on forums and FAQs and I still have a problem. I am over level 100 in Watchful, Dangerous and Persuasive, but have not her gotten the "coincidence" card that was described on the Fallen London wiki. I feel like I have come to a dead end and do not know if I have failed to do something, or if there is a bug in the game. Please help if you can.

Thanks, Gary
