From Fallen London Wiki (Staging)
It does help to bear in-mind that this is a roleplaying game. Our characters have some definable traits that are consistent, but overall our decisions are the ones that influence the way they think, act, and communicate. A lot of actions end up being purely for flavor and roleplaying purposes because of that, such as the items in the Making Your Name stories.
Your Londoner (who may not even be from Britain) doesn't need to view this in a good light. Not everyone needs to believe that outright cultural assimilation is a good thing for "accuracy." We're in a giant cavern filled with eldritch deities during the Victorian era where queer people are considered a normalcy, I don't think accuracy needs to be everything.
