Results of the Fallen London Wiki Survey[edit]
The results of the FLwiki survey which we recently ran can be found here (google docs), and here (google sheets). Note that some of the requested features have already been added. - --Asarta (talk) 11:44, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
- Adding the key takeaways linked on the wiki Discord a while back.
Feel free to add to this list if you think it’s incomplete
[Area in need of improvement] - [planned course of action]
1. Improvements to the way the relevant information in them is stored and how especially large categories are structured - planned SMW implementations
2. Making relevant guides more easily found - more cross-linking, possibly already done in the appropriate quality pages
3. Making the sidebar links more useful to the average reader - WIP
4. Misc improvements to how the wiki looks - WIP? We could also point out that logged-in users can use custom CSS
5. Making editing the wiki more accessible - reworked and new guides on the subject
6. Lack of knowledge in using SMW - WIP
7. Better avenues of communication - link to Wiscord added on the sidebar, the forum is also here. FBO might add a wiki-related channel.
8. More guides and information on Fate content - WIP (1, 2, 3)
9. More specific complaints about certain guides, the 250 character or the Fate policy - WIP, more accessible info on how those came about and why they exist
10. 1-click-FL-Wiki extension is not widely known - link it in the sidebar TFF (talk) 12:11, 13 February 2022 (UTC) - > 1-click-FL-Wiki extension is not widely known - link it in the sidebar
Link it here too, please, because I didn't know such a thing existed 😆 Fynnkaterin (talk) 18:47, 13 February 2022 (UTC)- This should be it: https://github.com/lensvol/fl-oneclick-wiki (also found in the relevant Mozilla and Chrome places) TFF (talk) 19:15, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
- Oh my god. Beautiful, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, etc. Fynnkaterin (talk) 19:02, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

- When I click the link to the google doc results, the page loads, but then it displays a message: "File unavailable. Sorry, there's a problem with this file. Please reload." There's a Reload button on the message form, but it just reloads the page and brings the same error back up. Orthogon (talk) 19:06, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
- One other common theme that I saw in the free-text responses was a preference that Guide content have more structure rather than paragraphs of prose. Several ideas that seems feasible are preferring bullets or tables rather than text when possible, and splitting longer guides into sub-pages.
Sub-pages also have some advantages, like being able to hide spoiler-y content behind a link click, and deep-linking specific sub-guides becomes easier.
I think there's also a desire for shorter guides for smaller content. PSGarak (talk) 20:44, 13 February 2022 (UTC)- As someone who primarily does Guide editing, this was really helpful feedback, honestly. I've been sort of guessing up till this point about what will be most helpful to people, based on what's helpful to me. I had this in mind yesterday when I went through the Making Your Name guide and tried to break it down more into bullet points and step-by-step; I welcome feedback if anyone has any.
I'm always uncertain when and when not to use tables. On one hand, they're certainly the neatest visually for presenting certain info; on the other, they aren't always mobile-friendly (especially if they have more than 3 columns or so). I'd like to get other people's input on this, too. Fynnkaterin (talk) 19:00, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
