Starting a newspaper[edit]

Once you become A Person of Some Importance and reach 110, you'll be able to begin your journey toward being An Editor of Newspapers by talking with the urchin on your roof or by drawing The Start of the Day's Business. Both starting points will allow you to travel to , albeit with a fee of 200 for each visit until you finish staffing your newspaper.

Finally, you must give your newspaper a name, and decide why you created it in the first place.

Once you have your own newspaper (i.e. at least 10), you can work on publishing a new edition. Start the process by going to Doubt Street and Get those blasted things running, which will give you (it costs , which can be obtained in Wilmot's End by searching for a Missing Woman). See below for various options you can try at different levels of this quality. Based on the options, you'll start collecting 3 types of Copy: Meritorious, Outlandish, and Salacious.

Once Hour before the Deadline reaches 1, it's time to Start the presses! and choose the type of edition you want to print. The edition types available to you will depend on how many of each type of Copy you've managed to collect.

For acquiring all possible research, you need:

  • 150 Watchful
  • University Laboratory
  • Your own stall at the Bone Market
  • or
  • The opportunity card A Public Lecture (requires access to the bone market)

While reading the table below, please note:

  • Some Newspaper editions require specific qualities or companions to maximise the payout. If that is the case, two reward values are listed in the last column:
    • The Min reward is the best result you can achieve without any of the required qualities or companions.
    • The Max reward is the best result you can achieve if you unlocked all required qualities and companions.
  • When calculating rewards that require Salacious Copy it is assumed that:
  • EPA is calculated assuming 18.5 actions are required to make a newspaper (11 / 2 to earn one at Wilmot's End, 13 to print a newspaper).
    • Tier 2 PoSIs can obtain from Hearts' Game via The assemblage of ticking brass. This increases the carousel to 19 actions, but awards an additional worth 12.5E, which adds around 0.56 EPA to even the most profitable editions.
    • If you have the from Evolution, you can gain by dreaming of Rosy Colours Leaping on the Wall at Zee. This takes just 8 actions, reducing the length of the newspaper carousel to 15 actions and increasing all EPA values by 23%. However, each dream cycle requires drawing 8 Infrequent cards at Zee and gives .
